Tom and I went on our 5th annual Atlantic City Valentine Week mid-winter getaway the week of the 8th. We had a really nice time and it was so nice to get away and not worry about anything or have any set schedule. We always stay at the Tropicana.
We would start our day off with a nice brunch at 11 am and then were able to walk the boardwalk because the temp was in the mid to upper 60's most of the week. We would browse the open shops and walk in some other casinos to look around. Occasionally Teddi and I would play a slot machine that the Tropicana didn't have. Teddi is very lucky, she's always winning something over $200. I have no luck whatsoever, but I have fun and only play with my day's allotment. If you go to the casino's expecting to win big...you're in for a very big disappointment and will end up spending and losing more money than you can afford to lose. So I'm always very careful.
Our second night we went to the Trop's show, Spirit Of The Dance ( Irish dancers) which I really enjoyed. Our third night we went to the Comedy Club, always a treat. Our fourth night I called it an early night and went upstairs to our room at 9 pm to watch LOST. That shows you what a die hard fan I am, I'm in Atlantic City and I'm watching TV!! Our last night Tom and I went to the IMAX to see The Dark Knight. We had seen it at home on DVD but IMAX is so much better!
Of course our trip wouldn't be complete without John pulling something on Tom and he didn't disappoint. They were enjoying a pitcher of beer at the bar and John told the young female bartender that once a week Tom dances in a thong for an old folk's home. Tom just hangs his head and sighs. One evening we stopped by the bar to have a drink before dinner and as we were leaving that same bartender came on shift and asked Tom if he would be back later to dance for everyone. He said " you can count on it". I put his thong in the freezer.
Last year, while at the bar, John needed to use the men's room and upon getting up from his stool he turns to Tom and says quite loudly "do you want me to empty your colostomy bag for you?" It's always something.
When it's time to head for home, we always drive to Adamstown, PA and stop at one of our favorite Diners, Silk City Diner. When we got there it was closed and under construction. Might have been a fire, hard to tell, but that was our consensus. Luckily there was another diner down the road a bit and it was open and the food was just as appetizing. This year John didn't experience his yearly 'car sickness' on the way home which I always attributed to too much beer and the guys went easier on it this year and were actually in bed every night before midnight. Hee hee, they are really starting to show their age.

Atlantic City Pics June/July 2008

Tom and I took one day to go to Atlantic City. We left at 9:30 am . It's about a 45 minute ride from Wildwood. We parked at the Tropicana ( our favorite casino) and walked around for a bit. We only put $20 into the machines, as we didn't come to gamble, just to get away by ourselves for a few hours. We had lunch at Hooters, inside the Tropicana. We split an order of hot wings and a Philly steak & cheese sandwich and got some onion rings with dipping sauce.
We walked the boardwalk and shops and went into the new mall off the boardwalk that has a catwalk attached to Ceasars. We took a few photos off the deck of the mall.
We had taken photos of each other right off the boardwalk and a young guy in his 30's asked us if we wanted him to take our pic together. We hesitated for just a second or two, we've all seen those movies where that question is asked and the guy takes off with your new camera LOL. Well, we decided to let him do it and he did not run away with it. Although Tom had hung my purse right behind him on the picket fence and there was another guy coming up behind the first guy, so I nonchalantly walked over and grabbed it up. Just in case!
The same thing happened right outside of Ceasars but this time it was a lady about my age so I thought what the heck. Isn't it a shame we are so untrusting?
These were taken on the walkway from the mall to Ceasars overlooking the boardwalk. Considering we were shooting through plate glass windows, I dont' think they turned out too badly.

My grandson spotted this egret ( in the bottom left hand corner of the boulder), he has great eyes, because the egret blended in so well with the boulder, it took me a few minutes to spot it! I took the photo into my Paint Shop Pro and 'fixed' it so you can see it much better now.

We took one day to go to the Cape May County Zoo. We'd never been there before and it was a really HOT day and the ocean breeze was nowhere to be felt. I wasn't looking forward to broiling out in that sun without being able to take a dip in the pool or ocean to cool off. I was having bad bouts of hot flashes that morning as well. Reluctantly I went along so as not to disappoint the grandkids. Turns out I thoroughly enjoyed it, as the zoo was set inside a very woodsy area and there was lots of shade. While it wasn't exactly 'cool' it certainly helped. This is a photo of Tom and our youngest daughter Nicki with her boyfriend Bobby right outside the zoo entrance.
I just loved all the foilage and shaded areas.
The Zoo does not charge to get in, but they do take contributions.
We didn't see any monkeys, they weren't in the cages and there were notices that they would be back at a later date. I guess they went on vacation too, lol. It was so hot that day, that many of them didn't come out of their housing.

This small fawn was 'hidden' in the shade but I found her! What's funny is, we don't really have to go to the zoo to see deer......they live right behind our house and we live in the city!
The zoo is smaller than your standart city zoo, but maybe that's why I really liked it. It wasn't overwhelming and the kids didn't tire out before we got halfway through it. We did visit the amphibian house but never made it the aviary. We were all ready to go back to our motel and don our bathing suits.

Seashore Vacation Photos

Here are some photos of our vacation to the Wildwood NJ seashore last month. This is our motel located in Wildwood Crest. We are one block from the ocean, which is in the foreground. Actually, we are one block from where the beach starts, lol it feels like 3 more blocks to the actual ocean.
Our motel has a great little play area for the kids. It's filled with sand and boasts a new climbing gym with tire swing. Behind that is a 'Noah's Ark' where the kids love to climb aboard and play 'pirate ship'.

This is the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse located in Northern Wildwood on the South side of the Hereford Inlet. For a brief history of the lighthouse, click here.
I love this silhoutte of the lighthouse behind the trees taken on the inlet side.
The lighthouse property has one of the most beautiful gardens I've ever seen, complete with gazebo.
These paths lead up to the inlet, where you can walk along the concrete paved walkway. Several years ago the walkway was all large rocks, and very dangerous, as my grandaughter has some scars on her knees to prove it. We were glad to see that they paved over them.
These are my grandkids - Jordyn age 8, Jonah age 5 and Ayden Grace age 19 months.

We took one morning and rode over to Cape May. Some more history of Cape May. I forgot to take my camera along, as I wanted to take some photos of the gorgeous Victorian homes ( some of which have been turned into bed & breakfasts and hotels). You can get an idea of what some of them look like by clicking here .
I also forgot to take my camera down to the beach with us. Arrrgh! I'll have to remember next year.
We took one day and visited the Cape May County Zoo - and I did remember my camera! Tom and I also went to Atlantic City for a few hours and I have some photos from there, although many didn't turn out to my dismay. I'll post the zoo and AC photos in the next post.
